Congrats to Mauro for competing in the Visual Arts Scholastic Event in Katy
Mauro traveled to Katy, TX to compete in the Jr. Visual Arts Scholastic Event(VASE) at the middle school level along with a group of his peers from Marshall Middle School. This is the UIL event for Art in Texas. Not only did he have to come up with a completely original artwork idea and execute it, but he also had to write about his intentions and document every step of the way.
On the day of the competition , he had an 8 minute one-on-one interview with a highly trained juror, where he was asked questions to gauge not only how well he spoke about his artwork, but also how well he understood the TEKS of Art (Fine Arts Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) and how they applied to his artwork.
At the end of competition, Mauro earned a rank of 4-Excellent!

The SETX RDSPD celebrated a fantastic day of fun, connection, and community at our Signs of Spring event! Students had the opportunity to spend time with local ASL clubs, community partners, and incredible volunteers who helped make the day so special. Events like this are a meaningful way for our students to build friendships, reconnect with friends, and celebrate being part of a community. It was also a great opportunity for families to connect with local resources and organizations that support our deaf and hard of hearing community.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed their time and energy to help make this event a wonderful success.
